Keith O’Rahilly, has opened up his studio to all national school children from the community that have a particular interest in Art. While visiting Studio Art, students are taught an eight-week course in Art Craft and Design using contemporary art techniques and at the same time, witnessing studio art practices that evolve while the course is on. Keith has taught Art in Secondary School and to National School children in Newcastle West for the past eight years while continuing his own studio work, focusing primarily on painting. He is also a member of the NCW Arts committee. If you are interested in taking part in art classes of this kind please contact Keith on 086 3119036.
A tribute to the impressionist artist, among them Claude Monet, was made in last weeks art class. Students learned about the period of art history where painters moved away from traditional painting and laid the foundation for post modern art. Well done to all of you who took part. This was a big challenge to make a copy of this work.
Here are a series of paintings by our proud students, having looked at abstract artists like Sean Scully and Jackson Pollock who paint in this genre. Some would say it was a brave move to encourage art students of this age to paint in such a free manner with no regard for form or representational content. But I think you will agree the results are inspiring! These students have really caught the aesthetic nature of what abstract art is all about.
